I first became familiar with FPS through a good friend of mine who is a New Jersey school district advisor. During Covid, she asked me to speak to her FPS classes about my general life experiences. I connected with her students and we collectively decided to do a problem solving session together.
I created a scenario planning exercise based on the event industry being so affected by the pandemic. It was designed as a mini problem solving session. The problem they had to solve was as follows: What would they do for a nonprofit that couldn’t have an event anymore because of the new realities of Covid? This exercise led us to partner with an organization, PangeaSeed Foundation to create an activity for World’s Oceans Day during the FPS Global Conference. The students created a “new” type of awareness campaign for this nonprofit that couldn’t gather anymore. With that, the first ever FPS World Oceans Day sidewalk chalk art competition was born! I also helped raise $3000 in scholarships for the activity winners- one sponsorship was given by Google.
It was all uphill from there as I became friendly with the FPS management team. I gave some advice on their virtual event platform and later provided a strategy for their website.
